Dyslexia is a neurobiological language disability that is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/ or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities. Even though it is a lifelong condition, with proper treatment, most children and adults with dyslexia can read and write well in various academic settings.
The Cedars International Academy uses a nationally well-known dyslexia program, Wilson Reading System. This program is a systematic, explicit, multisensory approach to teaching reading, spelling, and reading comprehension as an intervention for learners identified with dyslexia. It is aligned with research-based practices for developing literacy and provides a set of routines for students to practice skills and monitor progress.
Components of Instruction:
- Phonics
- Decoding(word attack)
- Word & Sentence reading
- Vocabulary
- Encoding(spelling)
- Reading fluency
- Reading comprehension
